Ark-G Dental & Cosmetics Centre

Helping nervous patients feel calmer and more comfortable during treatment

For some patients, visiting the dentist can feel overwhelming. Whether due to previous experiences, dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex or the complexity of treatment needed, fear of treatment can sometimes lead people to delay important dental care altogether.

At Ark-G Dental & Cosmetics, IV sedation is available to help patients feel deeply relaxed and more comfortable during dental treatment, while still remaining conscious and able to respond throughout the procedure.

Sedation can be particularly helpful for nervous patients, longer appointments or more complex treatments such as dental implants, extractions or restorative dentistry.

Gentle support for nervous patients

We understand that dental anxiety can affect people in very different ways. For some, it is a feeling of unease before treatment. For others, it may have prevented them from visiting the dentist for many years.

IV sedation can help patients feel calmer, more relaxed and better able to move forward with treatment in a way that feels manageable and supported. Care is always approached patiently and sensitively, with time taken to explain treatment clearly and help patients feel comfortable throughout their visit.

For many patients, sedation is not simply about helping treatment feel easier in the moment — it can also help rebuild confidence around dental care over time.

Who can benefit from sedation?

IV sedation may be suitable for patients who:

  • Feel anxious or fearful about dental treatment.
  • Have avoided the dentist for many years.
  • Need longer or more complex treatment.
  • Have a strong gag reflex.
  • Struggle to sit comfortably through treatment.
  • Feel nervous about injections or dental procedures.

What does sedation feel like?

Most patients describe feeling very relaxed, sleepy and detached from the treatment around them. Although you will remain conscious and able to communicate, the experience often feels much shorter and calmer than expected. Many patients remember little about the appointment afterwards.

You will still receive local anaesthetic to ensure the treatment itself remains comfortable.

Treatments commonly carried out with sedation

IV sedation can be used alongside many different dental procedures, including:

  • Dental implants.
  • Surgical extractions.
  • Restorative dentistry.
  • Periodontal treatment.
  • Multiple treatments completed in one visit.

Suitability for sedation will always be discussed during your consultation.

Excellent service from booking appointments to having treatment, all the staff are lovely. I was nervous like most, but the experience I received was nothing short of excellent. My husband was treated at the Crayford branch as well and was very pleased with the service.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be asleep during IV sedation?

No. IV sedation relaxes you deeply, but you remain conscious and able to respond during treatment.

Is IV sedation safe?

IV sedation is widely used within dentistry and is considered very safe when provided by appropriately trained clinicians in a suitable clinical setting. Before treatment, your medical history and suitability for sedation will be carefully assessed, and you will be monitored closely throughout your appointment.

You will also be given full pre- and post-treatment instructions, including the need for a responsible adult to accompany you home afterwards.

Will I remember the procedure?

Many patients remember very little afterwards, although experiences vary slightly from person to person.

Can I drive after sedation?

No. You must not drive after IV sedation and will need somebody to accompany you home.

Is sedation suitable for everyone?

Not always. Your medical history and overall health will be reviewed carefully beforehand to ensure sedation is appropriate and safe for you.

Can sedation help severe dental anxiety?

Yes. IV sedation is commonly used to help patients who feel extremely anxious or fearful about dental treatment feel calmer and more comfortable throughout their appointment.
